Ways To Keep Warm During The Cold Season

November has started with a brisk vengeance. Unfortunately, many families resort to keeping their home warm by racking up their heating costs by keeping their heater going all season long. However, this sudden shift in use can be taxing on your heater and your wallet. Before cranking up the heat and risk having to call a South Jersey heater repair contractor, be sure you are practicing these low-cost ways to keep warm.

Seal Up Cracks By Your Windows

Tiny cracks by your window can let a disproportionate amount of heat exit your home. The tiniest of cracks deserve just as much attention as the bigger ones. Drafts and cold spots can exist in your home. If these drafts and cold spots are near windows or doors, make sure to seal any cracks that are located near them.

Tweak Your Ceiling Fan

If you believe your fan is only for the hot spring and summer days, think again. The motor can be reversed in the winter so it can create an updraft that collects the warm air at the ceiling and push it back down. This idea can help you feel the warmth for a lot longer and can allow for your thermostat to stay lower since you are making the most of the current hot air.

Use Your Blankets

To stay warm when the temperatures drop at night, make sure your bed and blankets are up to speed. Certain blankets like down-filled blankets help trap heat within. Electric blankets are good as well in moderation but will affect your electric bill slightly. Blankets will help you last longer before adjusting the thermostat. Don’t think you can shut it completely off, however!

Adjust Your Curtains

Natural sunlight is a great source of heat for your home. During the day, leave your curtains open to allow your windows to absorb sunlight and add some extra heat to your home. At night, be sure to close them off to allow for maximum insulation of your home. Blackout shades can help as well if you rather not have your curtains remain open.

Invest in Draft Stoppers

Cold air can creep through the bottoms of your doors very easily. Draft stoppers allow your doors to be sealed off and prevent any air from inside your home from escaping and vice versa. There are great DIY draft stoppers as well as ones you can purchase at the store in various packs.

Close Off Your Rooms

All your rooms that are not frequently used should be closed off to keep the warm air infrequently used rooms. Vents and doors should be closed off that are not used to allow for your heating system to be redirected to the rooms where people will be spending their time.

I hope this helps!
